About

Wolf Run is a game that’s coming to us from IGT and which is getting a theme that seems to be a favorite for this developer. It’s inspired by wolves and by the way Native Americans are looking at them, as spirits represented through totems. You will notice that the graphics from Wolf Run are very similar to those from another slot from IGT, called Wild Wolf, but there are some differences in a couple of areas. The game offers 40 lines, on 5x4 reels. The other game, Wild Wolf, had 50 lines, so that’s one of the few things that are different between the two slot machines. You will discover on the reels that there are stacked wilds, along with scatters and free spins. The game pays at most 1,000 coins when forming the right combination.

Betting requirements

A minimum of 1 and a maximum of 40 lines is the range that you may use when deciding on your bets. You select your lines, and this in turn decides the number of coins which are going to be in your wagers. The line bet is the same with the coin bet and it starts from a minimum denomination of $1. As usual, this IGT game gives high rollers a chance to wager significant amounts if they desire to do so.

Theme & Design

The wolf theme is quite clear once the game loads up, especially once you see the three symbols which have images of wolves on them, or the two with the wooden totems. The background shows you mountains and the green forests that cover them, the kind of place where packs of wolves would actually still be found these days. At the top, you have the game logo with a Dream Catcher around it. The game’s graphics are very similar to those used in their other wolf themed game, Wild Wolf. You have the same symbols for the most part, but some of them are changed a bit. You still get the wolf howling at a full moon, along with the bonus Dream Catcher, with two wolves (different ones here, in white or black/white), two totems and six Royals (between 9 an A is their range). I haven’t found much to be happy about graphics wise. It’s not just that it’s basically a clone of another game of theirs, where they didn’t even bother to change 90% of the design. It’s also the dated style and the fact that it sports the kind of look that I see in almost all slots which are themed around wolves and Native American culture.

Special Features

Both Wolf Run and Wild Wolf have exactly the same features, built around the stacked wild, scatters or the free spins. It doesn’t get any better than this in either of them, which is a shame since the game doesn’t manage to offer anything better than most slots launched today. The feature list starts with the wild symbol, the same one as in Wild Wolf. It’s a stacked symbol, which is capable of forming combinations which pay up to 1,000x. Since it’s stacked, you usually get it to land and be part of multiple lines. It’s very useful this way, plus it can form its own combinations on multiple lines, paying you the top jackpot more than once if it does trigger. As a substitute, there is only one symbol which it can’t replace, the scatter. As for that scatter, you’re going to land it on the centre three reels only. The symbol is only useful if it appears on all three reels at the same time, without mattering what are the exact positions. If this happens, you can expect a small reward, at 2x total bet, plus access to 5 free spins. The graphics of the symbols change a little bit during free spins, but the rest of the gameplay remains the same. As I’ve said, I haven’t found a single thing that was impressive about this game. The stacked wilds do look like they could help out with your wins, but this feature doesn’t do enough to compensate for what is missing.

Wolf Run

Jackpot

You get payouts of 1,000 coins at most, but at least the symbol offering them comes in stacked, so there is some potential to get a lot of them in one go. The paytable informs us that the percentage of the RTP is at an average which ranges between 92.50% and 94.98%. Either way, it’s too low to make it a top contender. I’d call it a below average slot even in this category.

Conclusion

Overall, I found Wolf Run to be as boring as Wild Wolf is, which is not surprising since 95% they’re the same game, just with a different number of lines.
