About

Huangdi is a slot machine that Microgaming released in 2017, so it’s a newer title of theirs. The focus of the theme is on a famous Chinese emperor, called Huangdi. Also called The Yellow Emperor, it’s an almost mythical figure in the history of China, and it is considered a deity as well. According to the legends of the country, he lived for 100 years, between 2698 and 2598 BC. Regarding the rest of the features that are available, Huangdi offers 25 active lines, while the reels are the usual ones, 5 of them and with 3 symbols shown on each one. The highest payouts which are advertised inside will reach a value of $12,500. As for the features, the game relies on wild symbols, a scatter, free spins and stacked symbols which can expand others.

Betting requirements

The bets will go as high as $125 in value, which means that with 25 active lines you can spend up to $5 for each one. You can change only the total bet, while the number of lines is kept at 25, so that’s the part that is fixed. You can use smaller bets as well, but the line bet is the only one that is reduced at that point.

Theme & Design

As I’ve mentioned in the introduction, the game is built around one of the mythical emperors of China, called Huangdi, or The Yellow Emperor. He lived over 4600 years ago, and for a full century according to the legends. The tradition of the Chinese credits this powerful character with a lot of their inventions, among which I will mention the calendar, and even an ancient version of the game of football. You’re not getting the usual Chinese themed symbols here, which is one of the things that should be appreciated about the slot. You see Huangdi among them, along with logos, golden dragons, swords, chests and an object that appears to be a musical instrument. Unfortunately, the list concludes with five Royals, from 10 to A, which look hand drawn. The design style is very good, and if it wasn’t for those Royals on the reels, this would’ve been one of the best looking games that Microgaming has released lately. In the background, the image is that of mountains and temples, with an almost painting like look to it.

Special Features

The first thing I’d like to mention is a feature where the 1st reel will get the high paying symbols in stacked form. If you happen to have the entire 1st reel covered by one of the stacked icons, then all regular versions of that icon on the other reels will expand. Thanks to this feature, you could get all five reels occupied with symbols of the same type, so up to 25 winning combinations at the same time. The expansion occurs only if the symbols are in a winning combination. The same feature that I mentioned above gets even better during the free spins, where the wild symbols can also be expanded on the other reels, so the odds of getting a lot of simultaneous wins are improved. On the more regular side of the feature section, you will find the Huangdi Logo, which is the slot’s wild. It’s a regular one, a symbol that can either substitute for a regular symbol, or it can form its own paying combination, but with rewards of up to 250x only. A very cool looking Golden Dragon is the symbol with the ability of the scatter, which pays you by appearing at least two times in any position, and which triggers 15 free spins when it lands in at least three. Its own rewards will get you the total bet invested that round, at a multiplier of up to 100x. As for the free spins, the wild symbol appears stacked on the first reel and it can be expanded on the others as well. Even better, you can retrigger the slot’s free spins.

Jackpot

If you look at regular ways of getting paid, you’re going to find the scatter symbol in the lead position, since it’s capable of paying up to 100x the wager, so $12,500. The regular combinations pay up to 250x the line bet only, but it’s worth keeping in mind that you can have 25 winning combinations at the same time, thanks to the way the slot uses stacked and expanding symbols. It’s going to be a game in the usual note from Microgaming, in terms of RTP, a number which apparently sits at 96.20%. It’s not a huge number, but it’s above the average of the industry.

Conclusion

Huangdi - The Yellow Emperor might be one of the many Chinese themed slots that you will encounter these days, but it has plenty of unique things to make it more fun than the rest of the competition.
